Universities threaten to punish striking staff over cancelled lectures

Universities are threatening to punish staff(职工)who fail to make up for(补课)lectures and seminars(研讨会)cancelled during strikes(罢工),李亚倩 a move that union leaders(工会领导)say could prolong(延长)the industrial action(劳工行动).
In one case the University of Kent has told staff that any failure to reschedule(重新安排)lectures or classes lost because of the strike would see them lose 50% to 100% of their pay“for every day where an individual continues to refuse to perform their full contract of employment(充分履行合同)”.
Kent’s hardline stance(强硬的立场)extends to(扩大至)deducting(扣除)a high proportion of(一大部分)pay from low-paid(低薪的)graduate teaching assistants(助教), with some liable(有责任的;此处理解成 会)to lose more than a month’s pay for taking part in the strikes(参加罢工)that have so far lasted five days.

The cuts would come on top of the pay automatically(自动)lost while on strike.

“We would wish to make you aware that mindful of the positive employee relations climate(氛围)here at Keele, we have determined to deduct pay at the lower end of the range notified by other universities洪宗玄 ,” management told staff.
